Indoor Environmental Quality (실내환경학 3학점)
Indoor air levels of many pollutants are higher than outdoor levels. The high indoor levels are of particular concern because people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. We can improve public health by better design and operation of buildings. Indoor environmental quality also impacts natural resources, as enormous natural resources are used in constructing, operating, and maintaining buildings. Understanding and control of indoor environmental quality requires interdisciplinary approaches, since indoor environmental quality can be affected by pollutant source, ventilation, pollutant transportation and occupants. Throughout the course students will be provided with knowledge that should enable them to identify, evaluate and control hazards in offices, homes, schools , factories and other indoor environments where people spend most of their time. We will review the characteristics, effect, and control of several common indoor air pollutants.
Global Environmental Health Practicum (글로벌환경보건실습 3학점)
Environmental health involves assessment of various environmental problems which can cause effects in human health and ecosystem. In Korea, various fundamental and serious environmental health problems has been already solved. However, such problems still exist in developing countries. Students in Korea do not have real experience of assessment of such environmental health problems. Therefore, this practicum course will provide an opportunity to gain experience of assessing and tackling various environmental health problems in developing countries.
Environmental Impact Assessment (환경영향평가특론 3학점)
This course will introduce students to the theory and practice of environmental impact assessment (EIA). The objective of EIA is to encourage consideration of the environment in the planning and decision-making process to arrive at actions that avoid or minimize adverse impacts on the environment. EIA is now mandated by legislation in over 100 countries around the world. With encouragement from ISO 14000, the practice of EIA is expanding into the corporate world to evaluate the environmental aspects of business operations. Although the course will provide an overview of national and international requirements for EIA, the primary focus of the course will be the practical application of specific models and methodologies used in professional practice for impact prediction and assessment to an actual project. The major effort of this "learn by doing" course will be an environmental impact analysis of individual projects to be carried out by small teams of students over the course period.
Environmental Exposure Assessment (노출평가개론3학점)
Exposure assessment is described as evaluation of exposure. Occupational and general environments contain numerous substances that are potentially hazardous to the health of the workforce, other occupants and the public. The role of the occupational and environmental health professionals is to identify these potential hazards, evaluate the risk they pose to persons, property and equipment and to recommend control measures which can manage the risks involved. Throughout the course students will be provided with a variety of skills that should enable them to identify and predict hazards in environment. Focus of this course will be the presence and/or formation of toxic substances in environmental media, their movement within and between contaminated media, and the contacts of human populations with those media.
Advanced Exposure Analysis (노출분석학특론 3학점)
Knowing quantitatively what people are exposed to, by how much, when, and where it comes form is the centerpiece of exposure analysis. Only when the sources of exposure are accurately determined, we can protect public health by reducing exposure. Exposure analysis provides the basic tools and methods needed to identify the sources, understand the causes, alter the exposure, track the changes over time. This advanced course will address exposure analysis for doctoral students in occupational and environmental health fields. The role of the occupational and environmental health professionals is to identify these potential hazards, evaluate the risk they pose to persons, property and equipment and to recommend control measures which can manage the risks involved. Throughout the course, students will acquire a variety of advanced skills to analyze exposure and risk.
